윌리엄 버틀러 예이츠[William Butler Yeats 1865-1939]
)
아일랜드 출신. 20세기 영미시단의 대표적인 시인으로 꼽히고 있다. 화가의 아들로 태어나 더블린, 런던 등지에서 화가가 되려고 미술학교에 다니기도 했지만 곧 문학쪽으로 진로를 바꾸었다. 정통적인 기독교 대신 여러 형태의 신비주의, 민담, 영매술, 신플라톤사상 등에 몰두했고, "라파엘 전 예술가(Pre-Raphaelites)"의 이념에 동조하여 꿈같고 환상적인 주제를 즐겨 다루었다. 스펜서, 셸리 및 블레이크로부터 영향을 받아 그의 시는 낭만주의의 향기를 풍긴다. 주소재도 시냇물, 언덕, 바위, 숲, 바람과 구름 같은 것이었다. 아일랜드 문예협회를 창립하여 아일랜드 문예부흥운동을 주도하였고 아일랜드 국민극장을 창립하여 아일랜드 연극발전에 힘썼다. 아일랜드 독립운동에도 적극 참가하여 아일랜드가 독립자유국이 된 뒤에는 그 공으로 원로원 의원이 되기도 하였다. 1923년에 노벨문학상을 받았다. 주요 시집으로 "오이진의 방랑기(The Wanderings of Oisin and Other Poems)", 책임(Responsibilities)", "쿨호의 백조(The Wild Swans at Coole)", "탑(The Tower)", "마지막 시집(Last Poems)" 등이 있다.
The Lake Isle of Innisfree

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,

Agamemnon: 트로이 전쟁 때 그리스 연합군의 총사령관. 파리스에게 헬렌을 빼앗긴 메넬라우스의 형이기도 하다. 아가멤논은 전쟁에서 돌아와 집에서 목욕하다가, 그의 부재중 정부 아이기스투스와 정을 통하던 아내 클뤼템네스트라에게 살해당한다.
